You never think it will ever happen to you and then Wow! You find yourself in a real life or death situation. Just over 12 months ago what I thought was a chest infection turned out to be my worst nightmare which I thought plenty of fluids and Paracetamol would cure Which is what GP’s tell you) wrong! Arriving in critical condition in the A&E department at Redditch hospital I was basically told that I was drowning in the build-up of fluid in my lungs (Empyema) also they found a diaphragmatic hernia so my hours left were numbered.
I was then moved to The Priory. Enter the exceptional and multi-talented Ehab Bishay whose skills in the operating theatre literally saved my life.
When I arrived in his care at The Priory I was scared even though I would never have admitted that to anyone it is only now that I understand what he did for me.
It is his skill and brilliance in the operating theatre that saved mem, but it was also his empathy and support with the way he handled me and my petrified daughter. He holds that wonderful mix of basic human qualities, that of normality and the art of good communication.
I cannot thank him enough and will always be in his debt for the simple gift of life that could so easily have gone.

Mr Bishay has looked after me with great kindness for the past 2 years since my surgery for Cancer. He has the time to listen, explain any doubts I may have and has arranged another scan as I have some discomfort.
Also I cannot fault the staff at Heartlands I have had the best of treatment.

I was operated on by Mr Bishay for lung cancer 6 years ago I found him an excellent consultant very kind and understanding. I now see him annually for a checkup. He has a lovely manner and I can give him nothing but praise not only saving my life but also aftercare. There is could be no greater care than what I receive from Mr Bishay.

I was referred to Mr Bishay by another physician due to a lesion in my lung, suspected to be cancer. Mr Bishay explained his proposed course of action sympathetically and in detail, giving a procedure to determine wether it was malignant or not, and a prognosis in either case. He operated timeously and swiftly and was obviously highly pleased to be able to inform me that it was benign. An excellent surgeon and thorough gentleman, he earned my trust and respect by his impeccable performance.

I first met Ehab Bishay in January 2012 after being diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Ehab described clearly the procedure to be carried out and the operation was sucessful.For personal reasons this was a very difficult time and the support I received was a great help. I see Ehab twice a year for routine checks and we have become good friends. It is greatly reassuring to know that he is there for me if I have a problem.
On one occasion when following a visit to see my Doctor who seemed concerned about a recent report. I phoned Ehab's office and instead of answering the call, within two hours he called at the house to see me! It does not get any better than that.

Ehab S Bishay qualified in 1992 from St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London, with honours colours of the college. He then completed his basic surgical training in London gaining his general Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. He spent two and a half years in full time research in the premiere American Cardiothoracic Centre, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, being awarded his Master of Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the work he performed there.
He then entered specialist Cardiothoracic training on the West Midlands rotation gaining his specialist Fellowship of the Cardiothoracic Surgeons of England, FRCS (C-Th), and then shortly afterwards was allowed onto the Specialist Cardiothoracic register in 2006. He was appointed as Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital where he has held this position since 2007. There he previously led the lung cancer services, and leads on training as the regional training programme director for Cardiothoracic Surgery for the West Midlands deanery.
He is the co-chair and lead Thoracic surgeon organiser on the internationally recognised Birmingham Review Course in Cardiothoracic surgery. He is also a regular faculty member on a number of Royal college of surgeons of England, Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons courses.
He is the Royal College of Surgeons of England Regional specialist professional affairs advisor for Cardiothoracic surgery for the West Midlands as well as a College assessor. He practices all aspects of adult thoracic surgery with a specialist interest in superior sulcus tumours, tracheal surgery, sleeve resections, as well as VATs Lobectomies. He is a keen innovator and recently implanted the UK's first 3D printed breast bone implant in a patient with a large breast bone defect.
